BCMM March 2026 Progress Report

We've been busy since our last report - and while that usually means less frequent updates, it definitely doesn't mean there's nothing to share.

Fixes

We've been focusing on low-level fixes. Interestingly, one of these changes resulted in improved performance and memory stability as a side effect.

This wasn't entirely accidental, but it was discovered while working on the large battle simulator, which made the outcome particularly noticeable.

Large Battle Simulator

As mentioned in our previous report, we've been developing a prototype system designed to emulate truly massive fleet battles within BCMM.

We're happy to report that the prototype is now complete and undergoing testing.

Instead of rendering thousands of ships at once, the system simulates a much larger conflict in the background, while the player operates within a localized battlespace. What you see on screen is just one sector of a far greater engagement.

In this demo:

  • ~2,000 Cardassian ships vs ~1,000 Federation ships
  • Real-time background simulation of losses, reinforcements, and battle momentum
  • Local combat directly influencing the outcome of the wider conflict
  • Dynamic reinforcement system driven by global state

Design goals:

  • Large cinematic fleet battles
  • Persistent, evolving conflicts
  • A living strategic layer behind moment-to-moment gameplay

Technical notes:

  • Ships are not all spawned at once - the system maintains a controlled local battlespace
  • Global losses are simulated using probabilistic models (Poisson-based attrition)
  • Reinforcements dynamically adapt based on global ratios and local engagement
  • Incoming ships reflect battle progression through dynamic damage states (fatigue system)
  • Early battle sampling is used to calibrate combat intensity

Why this matters

This approach allows BCMM to: - Simulate thousands of ships without compromising performance
- Maintain immersion instead of turning battles into slideshow chaos
- Create both the illusion - and the reality - of a much larger war

You are not just in a battle.
You are inside a war that continues whether you look at it or not.

BCMM AI-AI-O Edition - Demo Available

We've been experimenting with a new AI-driven pipeline for BCMM and finally have something to show.

This demo showcases early results using AI-enhanced assets, along with a new compression approach that significantly reduces download size.

Until the next monthly report.
