Please be specific. What have you added exactly and in what order? Have you installed the Foundation? Have you turned on the master switch and mutators in the customize menu under options?
All hail the messiah!

For any casual modding, you need the Foundation.

(Note to mods, I am not endorsing piracy, I am trying to explain as best I can. If it is deemed this is a little touchy, I will remove any mention without hesitation or resistance. I -do not- wish to get banned or warned for something I do not endorse.)

Pretending this doesn't mean what I think it means, I can answer.

BC doesn't require any input in the registry, meaning if you had it on one HDD, formatted, and then put it back on (for example) as long as every file is there, it will work, and the installer will work also. If you've tried manually locating the stbc.exe and the updater has given you that same error, either

a) The installer is corrupt and you should try redownloading it.

Or

 b) If the game won't run at all before you attempt to install, your BC install or stbc.exe is corrupt and you need to reinstall.

BC was made before any serious security against piracy was in practice, just the standard cd-check, which means that it can't detect that a pirated install is, well, pirated. Therefore, there's a problem with either the patcher or exe. If you reinstall and still no luck, then I'm sorry to say but you're out of luck.

Not sure if I am being of any help, but I'm trying!

I'm pretty sure your game don't register into system during installation then either you're using ripped version (pre-installed) or you have bad luck ;) however there is a way to put your game into registry manually, I remember I read about it on some BC related forum, tho can't tell you precisely how...

BC doesn't require a registry entrance at all. And a pre-installed version will work, it's how I've backed up my installs for ages. So it's either bad luck or his pre installation/copy/whatever is missing something/has a corrupt exe.

The Patch can be installed into anything, even C:Windows, but I wouldn't recommend that.

No he is right. I moved my retail version of BC through four consecutive computers in the last years, still got it and it works fine.

indeed i have probably 4-5 setups of BC that all stemmed from the same clean install. i agree with the consensus that you have something corrupted, either the patch or game. BC is off the shelves how, you will be lucky to purchase a "new" copy online, but hope for the best

As you have seen, you don't need multiple CDs for multiple installs.

Unless shown otherwise, we have to assume we all have a legal cd.
