Most FPS games like Battlefield, Medal of Honour, Arma and such handle very differently to the FPRPG style. It looks like an fps, yeah, but it doesn't handle like one.
But hey, I could've told you you probably wouldn't have liked FO3 just based on what other kinds of FPS' you enjoy, and if you play any 'real-time combat' rpgs. Not every game works for everyone, that's why I won't go near WoW or TF2 anymore.
Though if you were ever convinced to try it again, I'd suggest try the PC version, simply because it's a lot easier to handle. Plus the small gameplay tweaks you can find (like making VATS a bullet-time effect rather than the current setup, or turning it into an accuracy modifier).
Hah, and here I thought I'd start trouble. And Limey, there has to be exemptions! I'd hate to see what a turnbased RTS looked like.
