Is this even the same game?
« on: October 05, 2008, 12:08:40 PM »
Was just thumbing through some older files on BCFiles and found this pic of the p81/C2X Venture.  Compare it with a contemporary screenshot.  Honestly, it doesn't look like the same game.

Feel free to post other comparison shots.

Better light positioning, higher resolution, AA/AF and better specular mapping (and turning ingame glows off) can really improve the graphics of the game.

Mostlikely someone managed to get enough patience and spare time to wait for a cray high res models to load in BC.
I still can't read peoples minds, nor can I read peoples computers, even worse, I can't combine the two to read what is going wrong with your BC install...

Am I the only one who likes glows? :S

And as for the difference, it has come a LONG way. (Not that I'm putting down the older works, but, I'm sure everyone gets what I mean.)

It largely depends on the type of glows. There are a lot of really ugly glows. ;)

Good graphics card?

That's what mine look like. :)  (not bragging, just saying that it can indeed look that good)

I have an 8500GT that can run most Source 2008 games on max.

What are your ingame settings? I have Specular Highlights checked in the options menu but they never show up like that on your Galaxy.

Well, part of it is the star system the picture was taken in.  The ambient blue light and angle are just right.

Have you used your nVidia control panel to increase your graphics settings?

Definitely. They are completely maxed out for Bridge Commander. I might try it in a different map, though. I'm probably just too used to Legacy's suns for specs.

EDIT: Does anyone know why my specular highlights button keeps turning off?

That's a nano fx issue... you can fix that by turning off "fix bright glow bug" *or what ever its called* in the nano fx config menu.
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

Well, even after that DJ's galaxy looks like a plastic model. I've had speculars in the past, I don't get why it's not working here.

Have you tried turning Enhanced Glows Off? That really helped me.

Oh BTW If the Fix Bright Glow Bug is on, Speculars are disabled after any major event thing, such as ships exploding, new systems etc. So, seeing as that Galaxy is Damaged, did you try re-enabling specs?

Ack, so how would I re-enable speculars if I am using Set Up Quickbattle in the Saffi menu? What I end up doing is Quick Battle and then use her to set up what I am doing.

When you've finished, and got your pose, just re-enable Specular Highlights via the Esc menu.
