Mod installation problems
« on: December 30, 2009, 02:02:11 AM »
Mods i install don't seem to be taking effect in game. i can put all the files that i want into the directory and the game will start with no problems and when i try to select the ships i want from the QB menu, they're just not there.

game works fine otherwise (aside from needing to restart QB when i die but that's not to big of a concern right now)

cheers

Is the "Extra Ships and Mods" Mutator turned on? Have you tried using the Bridge Commander Universal Tool to create a plugin?

o yeah, all the mutators are on and i've been trying to install DJ ships for the most part and.... come to think of it, all of the ships ive been throwing in there are drag and drop only.

i make a habbit of keeping away from mods that require me to make plugins... my big-city TDSB educated brain can't confound how to use them fancy newfangled plugin creators (i find it much easier to just drag and drop-- as i've mentioned before)

Well, bcut is about as easy as it gets with modding your install. You will be kicking yourself in the head for not trying it sooner trust me.
All hail the messiah!

Agreed, I use that for all the plugins I install and it works like a charm.

lol probably, but that's what i'm getting at is that all the mods I've installed so far don't need plugin generators or anything like that (the words "drag and drop" were specificly mentioned), up until the begining of the month when i last did anything to BC, it was working fine. anyone have any ideas short of me reinstalling?

some ships do not come with their own plugins, which is why you would need to make one for yourself in order for the ship(s) to show up in your menu list...
whether or not DJ's ships come with plugins (i assume they would), i dont know offhand...  with BC, not everything is drag-n-drop-and-there-it-is; altho most things are, not everything is and needs more on your end...
BCUT comes with instructions that make it easy to figure out, and if youre not sure still, you can always please feel free to ask more about it in its forum here: http://bcs-tng.com/forums/index.php?board=69.0

WAIT!!! I don't think you want to install foundation over KM 1.0's
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

neb is correct - if you have KM, you dont need the foundation from BCUT after all...

i also dl'd the beta of the new KM, should i just throw that on to a clean install?
yes - KM should be installed on a clean fresh install, after installing the 1.1 patch for BC (in other words, make a new fresh install of BC, install the patch, and then KM)...

so i threw out my old install and put in a new one with the new KM beta, working fine, first thing i did was throw DJ's Eclipse in the game and after about 5 mins i was in such shock and awe that i caught myself actually drooling a little bit (not like "OMG look at that *drools*, no i got it on my keyboard lol)

also @ nebula, since you're on the KM mod team, where do we send in feedback about the KM beta because i have a couple of observations/questions about the mod...

after installing KM on my clean BC, the first thing was go into war simulator (i was really curious) and then QB. in both of them it looks like the stock ships that get packed in with BC in the begining are still there with absolutely no change. i checked the mutators and whatnot just to see but it seems that they're all on by default and the stock ships are all there and all the added on ships seem to be balanced for the stock ships (they all have similar torpedo reload times, weapons arcs, look/feel, ect....)

is this supposed to happen and if so, will it be fixed for the final version or is it up to me to get my own ships and replace them all?

OR

is this some sort of freak modding accident? (chunk love KM 1.2 beta)

but really lol i was like  :wtf? and then i lol'd, pretty hard. other than that it looks good so far. haha i made it crash though.

thanks again for all the help

btw when you installed this mod you let eveything be overwritten right?? what does your menu look like?
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

o ya, everything got overwritten.... are you talking about my main menu? cuz it looks like the old one off of 1.0 except for the war sim button right under QB. also then i take it from your answer that the ships are supposed to be that way?

also wondering what soverign model did u guys use in KM 1.0 because i really liked that one and i can't figure out which one is which just by paroosing through bcfiles... thanks
