Ok, so F9th Dawg, brought this idea on, after I built the "GAGARIN" he suggested we should roll back and build a true TNG Constitution Class...   I agreed many months ago, and said the first step was to build a really good connie...

So this thread will show the work to building a great TNG Constitution class, insperation drawn by mainly Adonis as his connie at the minute rocks ( excalibur to be seen)

So, I am going to create an accurate (VERY ACCURATE) TMP Connie the 1701-A then TNG the ship :)

Final ship has no NCC or name as of yet  8)

The shuttle bay took me 4 hours to make sure it was smooth and clean  :)

Looking great already. Looks like a new design, though from what I pictured from a TNG version of the constitution would include elements from the Excelsior Class and Ambassador classes.

Use Galaxy class components?

This should be interesting.

I hear you, rebulit mine 7 times from scratch and it just does not look right. The rest of the ship is ready for texturing just the bloody fantail looks bad.

Hey Mark how about another great video tutorial on how to pull off a great secondary hull?

If he uses Galaxy Class components it'll end up looking something like this:

Nice work so far Mark, looking forward to more.

Another four hours gone, but managed to get those details done for the sides, pain to model too when you want it as one piece, good part is now I can use that another two times, when i cut away the hull and stick them in and clean it up..

@Wiley & Baz

Yeah that shuttle bay is a pain, where the side walls curve up smoothly to form the top side is a right B*tch to get done..

Video tut's are coming soon :)

Im on guard tonight, so I will get back to this tomorrow night.

I like it, I just hope it uses a lot of the elements from the previous eras. Thinking of it, I should draw up a ship using all the important features of all the enterprises into a ship, wonder what it'd look like.

Ok i know i am getting ahead of myself on this project but i have to ask when we finally do TNG her what kind of armaments should she have. Im thinking putting on an aft torp launcher and maybe slap on ambassador class phaser arrays what does everyone think?

Never too early to ask these questions mate..

Here is another, if the Connie was built during the TNG Era as we will be doing, would it fill the roll in the TNG Era as it did in the TMP era and replace the galaxy as the Flagship??

If so or if not, I think that would dictate the size and weapons outfit of this vessel  8)

On a side note, the NCC - 1701A is coming along, have those front details all smoothly meshed in now  8)

Wasnt the Constitution Class a "Heavy Cruiser", whereas the Galaxy Class is a "Battleship" ? I think if the ship was built brand new in the TNG-era, as a "Heavy Cruiser", it should definitely be able to be a decent match for an Intrepid Class (Light Cruiser). Both ships are also in a similar size, thou I think the Constitution Class would be a bit more maneuvrable.

Its a very good point mate, I wonder if they did make a TNG Connie if it would remain in that classification however?  What was a TMP Battleship? Excelsior?

In canon terms, the Excelsior was the closest thing to it. In SFC terms, its a heavy cruiser with the Battleship being some sort of "thing" covered in phasers and warp nacelles.
