So I take it there will be no last-ditch nose-explosive like on the Defiant Class (Which is why the Nose wasn't blended with the hull)?

that's probably a reasonable assumption, yes.

Superlative! May I suggest that you consider some variations to the design of the nacelles, and the aft section? I think much of the beauty of this ship has much to do with the more "aerodynamic" shape as opposed to the Defiant, as well as the lighter shade of the exterior textures. She looks fast and maneuverable.

Just please don't emasculate this ship, DJ. 8) The Defiant was a man o'war in every respect, and the Federation has more than enough science and exploration types already.

"I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast, for I intend to go into harm's way." - John Paul Jones, USN

Nice work DJ, she sure looks fast!!

What kind of armament will this ship have, is it similar to the Defiant with Pulse Phasers and Torpedoes or do you have something else planned!?.

I ask this because I think you could fit a couple of conventional phaser strips along the dorsal hull. One thing that the original Defient lack was aft firing Phaser Coverage, a definite design weakness. I would expect Starfleet to have thought about this and improved on the original Defiant design (hypothetically of couse!!).

Anyways.... great ship and a great start!!

The Defiant was designed to be more like a fighter, therefore having most weopnary firing fowrads, but aft phasers would def be an improvement.

Also, the phaser strips would probably work.

men like you, DJ, keep this world turning. lol
now that's an excelent cross of a Defiant and a Venture. EX CE LENT!!!!
I wonder if you will ever do an NX version of it. (22nd century) we do need more arcaic vessels.
so we can blast them to pieces with the 25th century ones lol.

awesome work as always.

Forgive me but I cannot resist. Paint this on the sides of the nav. deflector housing, lol.

Ok, silliness aside, I think it's a very sleek streamlined design. My only critique is the underside of the bow where it blends into the saucer seems a bit awkward to me (just my personal taste), however it does seem appropriate given what you wanted to accomplish. Nice work.

Interestingly, one of the lead designers of the TMP Enterprise, Andrew Probert, toyed with the idea to paint a shark's mouth on the 1701's torp launchers.

Even though the shark's teeth in the front end would look cool, I vote no on it.

I realize that this is a warship, but I always like to think that even the most potent & fierce Starfleet vessel still at it's core upholds the fundamental ideals of Starfleet and that is of exploration and discovery. This ship is no exception, it just has the ability to protect itself a lot better.

Well if starfleet would be pure military organization then warships could use such paintjobs but as moed said starfleet is rather exploring & discovery org so I say no for paintjobs although I remember defiant has logo (dunno is it is fan art or true insignia used in movie) with sharks teeth on forward deflector or whatever it is You here it is : http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/schematics/emblem-defiant-development.jpg

I was inspired by the WIP USS Kyoto to produce my own post-Defiant Starfleet Escort class.

OMG! This is looking great! Well done DJ!

   This ship rocks, for me Kyoto classifies as heavy escort/scout or light cruiser but this is truly pure evolution of defiant  :)

Exactly. Kyoto it's not an evolution step from Defiant Class. It tooks some of Defiant's tech and mix it whit Klingon Bird of Prey classes.

But this could a be next step in a direct line of evolution for sure...

That top right rear down view makes it look earily like an Al'kesh long range bomber.
