3DS Max 2011 .NIF Import/Export
« on: October 03, 2013, 03:41:59 PM »
I'm having trouble with the .nif import/export feature in 3DS Max 2011. Any model that I Import and then re-export becomes un-loadable by BC. The game crashes when trying to load the ship.

Are there particular settings I have to use on the import and export screens?

If anyone knows what they are, I would appreciate some help.

Thanks in advance!  :D

Sorry but haven't been following main forum much recently .   Anyway, only advice can offer is:  you can use nif plugin to import model into Max, and all your settings seem ok.  But to export working nif to use in BC,  you have to export out to Max 3, then from Max 3, export to nif.

To best of my knowledge this is only workflow that will work.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is Max 3? Is it a separate program or is it a type of file?

And thanks for responding by the way. :)

i see from thread title you have Max 2011.   Max 3 is simply an earlier version of max program, unfortunately no longer commercially available...to best of my knowledge, though you might be lucky enough to find it on ebay, etc.   Others can correct me if wrong, but Max version 3 was last version of the program that allowed exporting to BC ( I assume as they were around about the same time).  There was a special BC exporter created for Max 3 which you need to have to export to nif.  It was never updated/rewritten for later versions of max.   Hope that helps?

Bottom line:  your 2011 import nif will work with BC models and allow you to tweak, fiddle, etc;  the 2011 export nif is pretty much defunct for BC.  You have to get copy of Max 3 if you want to export back into BC.

I use Max 9 myself and it works fine with the nifskope exporter. I know Nix had some problems getting max 2012 to work but he has resolved it.

Can try PM'ing him as but I know he is away for a few days so might not respond straight away.

I could have sworn I was talking to someone on the forums here who said they did all their work with Max 2011.
Initially I had 2014 but i found out that it had no .nif plugins so I downgraded to 2011..... but apparently this is no good either?  :banghead:

Well I guess I have no option but to look for Max 3.

Thanks for the reply, but it still doesn't work.

I get a crash to desktop when the game tries to load the model. Even MPE cant load it.
