Question - best mods to add to BC?
« on: August 03, 2010, 12:47:30 PM »
I am not sure if this is the right thread (I am new here so please bear with me) but I would like to know what are the absolute best mods to add to BC to not only make it look awesome, but have a blast with as well.

This thread could possibly go on for 100 pages, with folks posting about each mod they've personally downloaded and how good it could be with certain other mods, and about how the one posted prior to the one they recommend is junk, etc, etc.

However, one mod that stands out: Kobayashi Maru.  It's a huge file.  800+ Mb, but definitely worth it since it adds so many files that are required by so many other ships or other downloads.

This will completely recreate BC and change a load of what you can do.  Be sure to read ALL the documentation, since nothing will make sense without knowing what you're looking at.

that stickied thread is mostly about ships it seems...
as far as mods go, the best bet would be to do as Locke advised and go the KM route...

install order is as follows:
install BC
install BC's 1.1 patch: http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Bridge_Commander_Patch;2374
install Kobayashi Maru 2009.12 Beta: http://bckobayashimaru.de/ws/index.php?id=downloads
install Kobayashi Maru 2010.02 Beta Update: http://bckobayashimaru.de/ws/index.php?id=downloads

that about covers up the best mods...  KM is a compilation of all the latest and best mods and has them all working together without any conflicts or problems...

once done with that, then install whatever ships youd like...
keep in mind that adding anything to KM will kill multiplayer so if you play MP, have 2 installs:  one with KM and nothing else (to play MP) and another one with KM and anything else youd like to add...
as far as best ships, refer to the thread that Kirk linked to for ideas...

Most people still use the older KM1.0 for MP, I run 3 installs, one with just KM1.0 to play MP (can't add anyships or other mods) BC with the KM2009+patch that I use to test ships and mods, and finally KM2009+patch, with Galaxy Charts 2.0 and where I install the mods and ships I tested on the other install.

umm GC 2.0 is already part of KM beta 2009.12 + patch
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

KM is a good way to go, but in case you feel like building your install from the ground up yourself I made a quick little guide on the BC Wiki a while ago that can help you get started:

just *always* make backups before adding in a new mod, and test each mod out well before adding another...
