Wierd issue with tactical display
« on: July 21, 2010, 03:56:53 PM »
I downloaded and installed WileyCoyote's Doomsday Machine mod last night and a strange thing happens now when I play with it.

Whenever I bring up the engineering display and after I close it, all the on screen tactical displays go to the bottom of the screen??  This includes the target, shields, sensor, etc. Now I know that the shield, sensor, weapons and the other one that I can't remember the name of right now are already on the bottom part of the menu, but they all stay minimized and I can't maximize them. I then completely quit out of QB (without closing BC) and then get back into QB and then the bridge officers menus are taking up the entire length of the top of the screen and well, in essence, everything is screwy?! The only way I can get things back to normal is by quitting BC and re-launching it. I tested it with a couple of other ships and so far it seems that it only happens with the WC Doomsday Machine.

Has anyone else experienced this and is there a solution? I haven't done a console report and I honestly don't know if it will show anything anyways. I'm wondering if this issue may be caused by NanoFX in some way... but that's just a complete guess and have nothing to do with it.

Any help greatly appreciated!  :)

That same thing happens to me rarely (or I don't seem to care). As long as the ship you are using is not crashing BC in anyway, you can just ignore the problem. The problem might be solved by re-aligning the system icons using BCUT, I've never tried it though.

Well, what's interesting is that it has never happened to me before last night. And I have 4 separate BC installs with 250+ ships/mods... and have had BC installed for 7.5 years.

Tonight, I'm going to try to recreate it using many different ships. If it doesn't crash but then does with the Doomsday Machine then it'll definitely isolate it to that mod. It's a beautiful mod but unfortunately, it did crash the game... but not all the time???

Anyhow, if anyone else has had this happened before and solved... let me know  :)

It's spelled "W E I R D". ;)

Okay, now that I have that out of my system . . .

I think I had this same thing happen with my OWN mod a few weeks ago.  If you post a screenshot of it, I can tell you for sure, but it sounds like the same thing.

As I recall, it had something to do with the warp core.  I didn't have the power set correctly, and the interface kept doing crazy stuff like what you described.

Yep, it is spelled weird... no ones perfect  :D

So, I tested out 20+ different ships last night and everything worked perfectly. I then used the Doomsday Machine and sure enough, everything went "weird".

If it is something to do with the warp core, then I can fiddle with the HP to see if it fixes the problem. But if that obviously doesn't do it, then I don't have a clue.

What surprises me is that this issue wasn't caught during beta testing??

Ok, so it has nothing to do with the warp core?!

At this point, I'm at a loss.

umm... custom ship file....?

still would be nice if you tried to get a console report. (even if you think it won't get anything...)
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

Got a console report... as I suspected - nothing.

Don't have any KM's installed, don't need them, I have all the mods I need (and want) and through many years of blood, sweat, & tears, have everything working perfectly.

My question now is if any of you other than Locke & WC have had this issue with WC's DM and if so, did you solve the problem or just live with it.

At which resolution do you play your game on? Have you specified T&L or non T&L card?

1600x1200

Sometimes I use T&L, sometimes I don't. I've tried both to see if it resolves the problem... nothing.

On a side note, I find that with T&L on, everything looks a little smoother on my rig.

That is a redraw problem, event documented in stock scripts. IIRC the coding solution is to go to bridge mode from tactical mod or vice versa then switch back to the original mode.

Could you actually post a screenshot of the problem and a console report.

I decided to uninstall it. If a v2 ever gets released - and it fixes the problem, then great.

Other than the 2 posts of others having ta similar problem, was I the only person to have this issue?!
