Google sketchup models
« on: November 22, 2009, 06:28:36 PM »
I remember seeing a thread where some of you guys discussed about plugins that allow importing google sketchup models into gmax or 3dsmax. I've been doing some digging in the 3dwarehouse where the sketchup models have been stored and are available for anyone for download. I've come across some sweet and accurate trek models, as well as few others, including these:

http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=827ae4ff630528fad2223d0d12dcfab8&prevstart=0

so.. I was wondering if someone is willing to give it a shot, or help me to get started with the conversion etc. of course, I would ask the authors for permission for this project..

His star trek
Will go on forever.
But tell him
While he wanders his starry sea
Remember, remember me."

I've got an SMD exporter for Sketchup and an importer for Max. It works pretty well.

Ah, thank you, I googled it and it already led me towards the right track. This knowledge will help me to get some sweet models for CFS3 as well.  :D  Are you going to have a go at this as well? there's a pretty sweet Stargazer-model there.. ;)

Dunno about that Constellation model :/ saucer section is kinda low poly compared to the one i converted from SFC2 few years ago also texturing is plainish...

but when I see Seaquest DSV first thing that come to my mind is :  :eek OMFG I WANT :eek tho it could also use few K additional polies, also forward section is too narrow.

other than these, these are great models for let's say Armada I&II but for BC they don't stand a chance against about any model released since 2006

SeaQuest DSV 4600-II  could make a decent spaceship. After all, it was abducted by aliens once, was it not? and check out the Stargate/Babylon 5/BSG/star wars models.. especially the Whitestars.

Interesting. :P
