insta-kill screen of denial

I went to go test a tweaked hardpoint thismorning, and got something strange.

after leading the initial menus and getting the bridge, I get a reflection of the NanoFX l-cars loading screen in the viewscreen, and no player menus or motion on the bridge.  this is giving me deja-vu for something I've read on here.  when I move the viewpoint, it's echoed in the viewscreen.  after that point, if I don't go back and delete the options CFG, it tells me Direct3d can't do a thing, and crashes before starting.

Check your hardpoint for errors and also make sure it's spelled correctly in the ship script (the one in scripts\ships).

dude, it doesn't even GET that far.  once the game starts it's disco screen of death.

EDIT: good guess, Teleguy.  I pulled my tester Hardpoint.  looks like I better have someone vet it.
