I like the underside, especially that deflector pod.  The small details you added were just right, and give the ship character.

As for the textures being cartoonish, I don't think they are.  This looks to me like a concept simulation, to show what the ship would look like once completed.  Something you would present to a review board or something.  Doesn't have to look as if the picture was taken of an actual completed ship, but gives the details necessary to show what it will look like when done.

I am working on the bridge section currently, and getting a feel for the size of the ship as is, its not going to be very big, probably smaller than the nx in  its entire scale by 10% or so, but its sister ship will be slightly larger.

Will there be any dirt/grit applied to the textures? They look a little too clean.

this does look good, have you noticed that the necelles look better though, thats because if you are going to use allot of bevels in your textures to show "fake" plating, then doing that on a flat surface does have a comic book look, but on a detailed mesh, like the necelles, it works.

adding to the above, try slight extrusions where the plates are on the textures, it takes some skill to get it to align with the textures, but it will also help bring the plating out, i call it "turtle shelling" or "scaling" since you start at the bottom i.e. towards the outside, and work your way in towards the bridge, the effect looks good, but make SURE that if you do that you remove the unnecessary verts.
(best example i have: )

there are other ways of doing this too, but thats the best way im aware of :)
I came, i saw, i added a Sig.
