3ds max, Freeze Selection Problem
« on: August 04, 2009, 03:14:32 AM »
I have a problem in 3ds max and since there are so many 3ds max experts here in the bc community, I thought I'd ask my question here:

I created a bounding box for my model and applied the blueprints as material, enabled backface culling, etc. So now I'd like to start modeling, but to avoid that I incidentally select the bounding box I freezed it. But now the materials aren't displayed in the viewport anymore. Any ideas, how I could fix this or which setting needs to be changed?

Thanks in advance,
gdata

There is a check box in the object properties (right click on the object) that you have to un-select called show frozen in grey.

This will freeze you box but preserve your texture.

Ah, great thank you. Cookie for you...

edit: is there any chance to display one object as wireframe and the other one shaded?

Not that I'm aware of. I apply a matiral to the odject I'm modelling and make it see through and model with the verts.

One good method I learnt, create a material with any colour and he opacity at 100, change the number of frames to 2 (button near the bottom right called "Time Configuration"), turn on Auto Key, go to the second frame and change the opacity to somthing very low (ie 10) then turn off Auto Key. Now you can flick between solid and essentially wireframe using the "." and "," keys.
