the only time we ever saw phasers fired was the alternate Defiant in the mirror universe.. we never saw the regular defiant fire any kind of beam phaser..only pulse phasers

Plus the Terran Defiant was the same ship... - quantum torpedoes and ablative armor.

Actually..not go off topic...but the Terran Defiant never fired quantum torpedos..she fired a 'high powered photon torpedo' or something to that effect as it was quoted and she only fired one..the rest of the battle was pulse phasers and the dorsal bridge phaser beam.. and yes..you are correct..we did see her fire the dorsal bridge phaser in 'paradise lost' as well as an aft torpedo

Ahem...So marky, are you planning on making this a pack???

Nice mesh Marky mate  , you could still nuke some polies there on the nose, and fore top and the extrusion on the back.  ;)

That was supossed to signify minus quantum torpedoes and ablative armor  :idk:

Well I'll be damned, there it is!

I'm not so sure...
I've got some pretty nice picks of Defiant on the hard drive and these seemed to be one of many unexplained raised features on the hull.
They aren't marked with the traditional Red Parenthetical that other Federation ships have at either end of the phaser strip.  (which means nothing because where ever the top phaser beam comes from doesn't have the Red Parenthetical either)

It's the same feature (without circular indents) as on the nose, between the aft dorsal vents and other locations.
I like the idea of them being phasers or something.  Defiant is so unexplained as to surface features...I'm still trying to decide where that torpedo came from in Paradise lost....

I imagine that those strips are sensor grids, much like the one on the dorsal part of the nacelle in the same area.  It's got the same hash-mark indention as the sensor grid, but only comes in strips.  And it would make sense in a coverage aspect: they all face a certain direction, and having them in the locations that they are would create a good sensor coverage area.

Uhm, I'm not trying to be mean here, but couldn't this be discussed in the General Trek thread???  Not sure what relevance this would have on Marky's model...

 :yeahthat

although I did enjoy reading the feedback, and additional detail regarding the phasers.

Nice mesh Marky mate  , you could still nuke some polies there on the nose, and fore top and the extrusion on the back.  ;)

Thanks Jules, Yeah you are prob right.. but to be honest I will leave her for now and just texture away, If It looks weak without those areas modelled in I will rectify

Thanks everyone for your comments and feedback, thanks DJ for noticing the work on the mesh to keep it efficient. This model will not be part of a pack, although I do plan on creating more than one set of textures for when she is released, including a Black defiant and a Alternate Universe texture too. After that though I am taking a break from trek stuff and going to do some high poly stuff and see how far I can push myself on a new project. For now though work continues on the Defiant, took me a while to get the UVW mapping working on 2012 correctly, those who have upgraded will notice all the issues

Mapping is complete, to a singular texture sheet as promised, just need to adjust for symmetry in places, but its there.

Little update,

Texturing is going slow, its mainly due to me trying to get this looking great and the fact that i'm busy with work stuff most of the time, any hoot here is where we are at.

I am going for 100% no distortions in these textures, no random angles where lines are not straight etc..  also I will be making this a 3 year old dirty defiant
