The NifTools/NifSkope people were working on a NIF import/export plugin for Blender, maybe it caught up with the TRUNK version (in other words, maybe it was updated to allow BC nifs, just like NifSkope)?
I still can't read peoples minds, nor can I read peoples computers, even worse, I can't combine the two to read what is going wrong with your BC install...

Don't see anything in the latest release notes but I will update and see if I can.

EDIT: Here it is! A nif importer/exporter that works for BC models! http://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/Blender

With the latest version of Blender I can now import(but not export) ms3d aswell.
All hail the messiah!
