How to get BC to work with Vista
« on: December 16, 2008, 02:58:06 PM »
I'm posting this if it will help anyone. This is what I had to do. Vista seems unpredictable starting the game itself without mods. I had bsod on three occasions, two were solved by checking the administrator box on the properties compatability window. The last time I had to check the run as XP Service pack2 box and run as administrator. I downloaded supermod 3 and followed the instructions with the recommendations. The reccommendations being to install BCMI and BCMP into the Bridge Commander folder. This did not work. I started all over and installed bcmi & bcmp into there own folder, reinstalled supermod 3 and it works. I believe someone wrote about vista having file placement problems; this very much seems to be the case. Actually, it may get conflicted with those folders in there not that vista put them in the wrong place.
OH! I forgot that the mutator menu didn't work and I downloaded UMM and installed. Worked fine! Thanks for all your help.

Vista tries to be clever and protects things in the Program Files folder. The only thing you need to do to get BC working flawlessly on Vista is install it somewhere else, say "C:/Games". As for BCMI and BCMP, they shouldn't even be on your computer! BCUT does everything both of those did, but better.

Well, not everyone has a masters degree in Vista administration, nor does everyone run as sudo administrator by default.
We need to provide generic, and simple, solutions to problems. If most people asking here are Vista administrators as their job, then they mostlikely wouldn't even be asking.

So, we need to err for easiness of solution, in this case, not install BC in program files on a vista installation.
I still can't read peoples minds, nor can I read peoples computers, even worse, I can't combine the two to read what is going wrong with your BC install...

This works, I've been using it for two years now. Flawless and easy. No hassle required.
