Saffi Killed BC?!? (CTD, no BSOD)
« on: September 26, 2007, 11:04:38 AM »
Ok here's the deal: I recently installed nxenterprisestudy into BC, and now QB seems to load ok, but when it actually gets to the bridge menu, as the menu pops up the camera pans from the viewscreen to Saffi, as soon as she's visible I'm looking at my desktop.  I tried running the un-install and THEN I get the BSOD.  Re-installed the ship and back to CTD... I'd appreciate any help  :D

Care to give us a link to the mod?
I still can't read peoples minds, nor can I read peoples computers, even worse, I can't combine the two to read what is going wrong with your BC install...

Do you have all the requirements???

Quote
-------------------------------you--will--need----------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------
Launching Framework at bcfiles in ( Utilities) , (not required)

Future Technologies 2(V2.0) BY edtheborg (not required)

Advance Technologies Pack by Apollo at bcfiles in (Utilities) (if you have
NanoFx 2.0 Beta in your game ,check off your ATP, (not required) you may need

Mvam Infinite(2.0) by Sneaker98 in (Utilities)at bcfiles.com

NanoFx2.0 Beta at www.bcfiles.com, (not required)

Dark Gunman BC Improvement Pack for the Torpedo Tex, (not required)

Not sure why it has (not required) next to some when they are all listed in the required section in the readme. IMO its best you have everything here just to be sure.
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

I have all of them EXCEPT Dark Gunman BC Improvement Pack.  I didn't get it (oops) because it said not required... perhaps an error on my part.

err... and I have so far been unable to locate it...

I now have all the required material installed, still the same result.  I have also tried disabling mutators (including MVAM) to no avail.  I apologize for being such a hard case...

well, it's known that the nxentstudy has issues with the plugins, some wrong names in the MVAM modules.
you should get USS Frontier's console tracker so you can get a console report of what's going on.

I'm almost sure that a crash to desktop always means a missing file.

That's usually with a Projectile file, since this is as soon as he sees Saffi (hence the thread title), it hadn't been fired yet.

Another possibility for a crash is a faulty (or missing) TGL. But I don't see how that could have happend here.

Sounds like a bad MVAM plugin to me.
Remove the appropriate MVAM plugin (py and pyc) from;
installpath\Bridge Commander\scripts\Custom\Autoload\Mvam

Then try running it again.

I thought that too, that's why I told him to disable MVAM, but I thought that plugins are loaded before the game or when they're used.

the nxentstudy has an MVAM problem. I had it once too, but I don't recall having a CTD, or at least not before having to use it

As far as I know, MVAM plugins are added to safi's menu on loading  the ship they belong to at the beginning of QB.
The description seems to indicate bringing up Saffi's menu crashes the game which suggests a corrupted or invalid plugin to me.

Could be wrong of course.

Sorry for interrupt, I have a question: if it was caused by a missing file or faulty MVAM module, would that not have been reversed upon uninstall?  As I said before, when I uninstall the mod I get the BSOD as soon as I click on QB from the game menu.

But didn't you reinstall the mod as well?

true, but if he did what I think he did, the first ship you load in QB is either the sovereign or the galaxy. so there's not MVAM plugin loaded for them until you set up a QB match, unless you're using the MVAM galaxy OR modded the game so the stock ship become the nxentstudy.

The first (default) ship that loads is the sovereign.  Is there a file for the MVAM that I can alter/delete that might fix the problem?  Or am I looking at a complete re-install?

Well I finally got back in, complete re-install of the game and all the mods... took hours.  I also copied the entire folder to a diff area of the HD so if this ever happens again, I can reverse the changes by overwriting the game folder with my backup

I'm sorry to hear you reinstalled the game.

I take it the suggestion of deleting the NX Study MVAM plugin didn't work?
